National Current Events

Today we were learning about current events. We used multiple sites to find information based on national news. Working in groups of 4 - 6 we created a google map site plotting the areas that have been affected or something has been going on there.

LI: To complete the activities

This week was our last week of our activity. We had to complete all eight. I had finished my Comprehension Questions. Comprehension Questions are questions relating about the book and the chapters.

Roald Dahl | Novels

For the past weeks we have been reading novel books from roald dahl. We have also been doing some activitys. The book i am reading is "The witches". This week i did the newspaper report. For this activity it needs to include a headline, photo, paragraphs, photo and cations.

For the past term we are reading Roald Dahl novels. We all got our own books to read for the term. For this week I have completed one of the eight activity. I have now done the describe the character. It's when your have to describe one character in the book. I have chosen the Grand High witch. 

Roald Dahl | Reading

We are now doing novel studies on Roald dahl books. Each person got their own book to read and do challenge's and activity's. I have the witches books. I am now doing the research on the author. For this   you have to research about the author's information. Eg: Kids, Wife's and books.

This week we are now doing aerodynamic study. We are also doing oragami. we are now recapping our skills on measuring too. We had to add these three most important area of a plane nose, fuselage (main body part of an aircraft) and wing. 

Witches | Reading | Roald Dahl

This week for reading we are now doing activity's. I have chosen to do "WALT write questions" for this activity we have to ask the main characters five questions each that will provided information not in the book. I would have asked boy (Main character) a question eg: How long have you've been an orphan.

Figurative language

This week we are now recapping our figurative language skills. There is 5 different types of figurative language. Simile, Metaphor, personification, Hyperbole, understatement.  Simile is a comparison of two things using "like or as".  Metaphor is two things are compared without using "like or as". personification is giving human traits to objects or ideas.

Hyperboly is exaggerating to show strong feeling or effect and understatement is expression with less strength than expected.

Bookmarks | Reading

This week we had to read Roald Dahl books for our activity we will be doing in the term. I am now doing witches. Then make bookmarks so then we can keep track of our reading. On the bookmarks we had to create or write what a good reader would use to read. 

Faulty Reasoning

LI: to understand faulty reasoning.

This week we were doing faulty reasoning. There are four different types of faulty reasoning, Illogical / simplified Assumption, Circular Reasoning, Over-generalization, Biased Argument and Contradiction. Illogical / simplified Assumption is providing evidence that does not directly support the claim (Hint: There are probably other influences / factors), Circular Reasoning is Supporting a claim with the same claim Hint: Look for synonyms!), Over-Generalization is Making a global statement when there are likely exceptions. (Hint: everybody, nobody, always), Biased Argument is Making a claim that is influenced by your own personal feelings or experience and Contradiction is Providing evidence that goes against the original argument.

LI: To identity the main ideas in a text. 
This week we have a new piece of persuasive writing. mine is about painful movement. And kids always getting injured from paying after school sports.After the synthesis we did the QAR question and answered a bunch of questions. Then finally made a speech if we agree or don't about the writing.

This week we have a new piece of persuasive writing. My groups writing is about animal cruelty. And labs testing animals. For the prior knowledge we had to write down what we already know about this writing. After the synthesis we did the QAR question and answered a bunch of questions. Then finaly did the flipgrid.

Ihumatao

LI: To identify the main ideas in a text.
This week we are focusing on finishing off our work. We had to write some persuasive text and some reasons. We also and to chose which side we were on either the Fletcher's side or Ihumataos. I have picked the ihumataos side because the place is a sacred place.

This week we had finished four more slides as a group on the Ihumatao event. We had read articles and watched videos to find our the information about when it happened. We had listed them in chronological order of the timeline. We had found the information from Otago Daily Times and a videos from 1 News. 

Constellation | Big dipper

LI: To use skimming, scanning, and summarising.

A constellation is a group of stars that come and form a shape in space. Today's materials we use was sticks a marshmallows. We used these materials to try and make a constellation. Our constellation we are using is The plough (Big dipper). This constellation is not a constellation its a atrism of seven stars. In this DLO we had to answer the following questions.

Synthesis

LI: To skim and scam.

Today I have a work in progrees DLO. Making connection means you can have a connection with a book. We had to fill in a table mat that we did for the past 2 weeks ago and we did the story white water actions. Its about a boy Manaki who love paddling canoes.

This week for reading we had to finish off making connections. We had a topic called cave creature. We used our activating prior knowledge. Our group needed to write about cave creatures.

This week we used one of our reading strategies prior knowledge. I did the story Chris Pither. It was about him being the youngest car racer in the world. On this slide it had a bunch of information that needed to be answered.

Play theatre

 LI: To build vocab & Expression
This week we have performed our play in the theatre. Our group did the play mayhem on mars. It is about four astronauts who fight over who sets foot on planet mars first and get in trouble for breaking the rules. We had to present inforunt on Mr O's reading groups. 

SSR Selfie

This week for SSR Selfie I have read the book BFG it is about sophie finding a giant on the street. I have read this book for 15 minutes and had to summarise it on a slide. On the slide it had lots of information
