Good and services | Supply and Demand | Enterprise and business

Supply is when you make or get something wanted or needed to sell. Demand is a request or command made by someone. Today we had a visitor coming in to our class, Michal. She came to talk about her own company that she owns called food print.

She talked about how its like owning a company and what it took to make it. She was passionate about food waste so she had an idea to make a company. She showed us many examples of food waste like bread. Also climate change.

There are 17,401 people using the app food print and 250 food stores that works with foodprint.

Demand & supply

LI: What is supply and demand

This week we learnt what supply and demand is. We played a business game in groups of 3 to understand more about supply, demand, price, income and stock. To play the game, we are given a product and that product is what we are selling. My group got pies.

We started with a balance of 50 dollars and decided how many pies we were going to make to start the business. 1 pie cost 4 dollars to make. Once we made the pies we had to do the maths and find out how many dollars it cost in total to make all the pies.

We had to figure out which price we wanted to sell the pies from 2, 5 or 10 dollars. If we chose 2 dollars we had to role a 20 sided dice to see how many people would buy the product. A 5 would be a 12 sided dice and a 10 would be a 6 sided dice. Then we added up the money. Example: We sold 10 pies for 2 dollars and 11 people bought it. 2x11 is 22. 22 plus the current amount of money is our balance. This continued for two rounds.

Kahoot | History of rugby

LI: apply inquiry, literacy and numeracy skills to learn about the RWC.
In this extra literacy task we could either pick to make a kahoot or an animation based around the rugby world cup and rugby history. e.g Where would the next rugby world cup be held? It was an option to use a true or false question or/and multiple answers on a kahoot. Unfortunately we couldn't make it public because we are students so we just took a screenshot them.

Time past and future

LI: apply inquiry, literacy and numeracy skills to learn about the RWC.

In this extra math RWC tasks we have been researching and finding information about the Time,
Past & Future for RWC. We had to answer different questions about the time, past & future. e.g When
will the 11th RWC will be held? and how old we would be when it is held? Each rugby world cup happens
fouryears after each other. We used a pencil and paper to calculate when they were going to happen.

Rugby events | RWC

LI: apply inquiry, literacy and numeracy skills to learn about the RWC.

In this literacy task we had to use our literacy and researching skills and find information about the rugby event and write what happened on the day, the date of when it happened and what kind of event it was. The three year events that we used were from 2011, 2015, and 2019 and we found videos about what happened in the event. Click the pictures to enter the videos of the Rugby world cup.

RWC | Match making

LI: To apply Inquiry, Literacy, and numeracy skills to learn about the RWC.
This week we have been combining all of numeracy and literacy skills to complete multiple tasks about the RWC this year. For this literacy task we had to match a player in the rugby world cup to a position that they play. We had to add pictures to show the players and some facts about the players.  e.g Richie Mcaw played as a flanker in the All Blacks and also was the first ever All Black to reach 100 caps.

Rube Goldberg machines | Inquiry

LI: To make a working rube Goldberg machine by using the 6 simple machines.
Over the past weeks, in groups LS1 had to make a Rube Golderg machine, We used the 6 simple machines. Wheel and axle, Lever, Incline plane, Pulley, Screw & wedge had to be included. The challenges were turning a Chromebook on, helping Mr Wong roll dice and hitting a putter. Our scenario was turning on the Chromebook.

On the last week our group had managed to get the machine finish. We used four different types of simple machines a wheel and axle, pulley, incline plane and a lever. For the wheel and axle we used a car. For the Pulley we used a string from a yo-yo and latches from the window. For the incline plane we used a marble roll down a ramp. And used the dominoes as the lever.

The most challenging task was creating the machines and trying to apply the 6 simple machines and communicating with our group to know what is going on and how we could help. I'd change another way of putting dominoes up without it falling because we always had to keep putting it up. And the amount of sellotape we used.

places to visit in Japan

LI: To apply Inquiry, Literacy, and numeracy skills to learn about the RWC.
This week we are applying our knowledge about the rugby world cup 2019 games. On this task we used our research skills and we found out places in japan facts and why we would what to visit. On this slide the places are Osaka (Famous for being surrounded by lots of fruit trees), Mt Fuji (Famous for having lots of blossom trees everywhere),

Sapporo (Has enormous ice sculptures). Kyoto (Has restaurants placed on top of streams) & Tokyo (Fabulous art).

Pulley | Inquiry

LI: To learn what a pulley is.
A pulley is used for pulling heavy loads with the use of a rope and a wheel. It has a grooved rim around it. If we add more loops around it we divide the weight between the rope making it easier to finish the job. We had to list some things using a pulley. Our group had remembered the objects with a pulley from school trips.

Incline Plain | Simple Machines

LI: to indentify an inclined plain.

This week for Inquiry we had been learning about Incline Plains. For this activity we worked in groups of 2-3. I worked with Fau for this. We had watched two videos based on incline plains and what they are used for.

We had made our own incline plains with Cardboard, Woodboards and anything else you can find. We tested them with small toy cars.

Then we had created a DLO talking about which is easier, an incline plain or lifting something straight up in the air and why. Then we had to draw an exaple of an inclined plain that we use in an everyday basis.

Wheel and Axle | Lever

LI: To learn what a wheel and axle is in a simple machine. The wheel in connected to the axle rotating each other when a forces are applied on either of them. A lever is a long rigid body with fulcrum along its length.  It rests on a pivot. We had to create a paper wheel and a lever. We created a DLO on a lever and a wheel and axle. We worked in partners for the wheel and axle then we partnered up with another pair making four people. For wheel and axle activity we made a paper windmill by using a straw and paper and seletape. We had to follow instructions. I completed this with Fau. Then we partnered up with another pair and we made a lever using a stick and an object that we could lift.

Jupiter and neptune

LI: To find out if other planets can support human life.

We had to find out if other planets can support human life with a little bit of help with technology. Such as: Oxygen tanks and ect. We presented in front of Mr. Wongs inquiry group. We did this in groups. I was with Fau & Farzana and we got a 3/3. Mr. Wong rated our presentations by: How good it looks, If the argument was reasoned well & If everyone had a speaking part.

Collabritive earth and beyond

This week for Inquiry, we collaborated with LS2 to active our prior knowledge about science,
and earth and beyond. Our first activity was creating a digital bus stop slide to active our prior knowledge.
I worked with Victoria and Fui to fill out as much as we could about science, space, earth, our solar system,
moon, and sun without searching up any of this information. Then we created a final list of Vocabulary
about words related to solar system. We had a time limit, so it was a rush to get information down,
then communicatewith our partner/s. We finally all watched a video to build on to our prior knowledge
and write more onto our presentation.
