Maori

This week for Maori we were learning Maori numbers. We recapped the numbers like kore which is 0. Mano is thousands, rau is hundreds, te kau is tens and ma is ones.

Maori | Wiki Ono

LI: to learn how to control a poi and learn how to understand something related to location.

This week in Maori, we learned how to use a poi. A poi is a Maori object that is used to increase flexibility and strength. It is also used as an instrument. The activity that we had done was translate different types of words that describe location. for example: Roto and in English it would mean inside.

L.I to learn the language behind Maori.
This week in Maori we have been learning the language of Maori. Today we have Focused on the word Goodbye and why we ask people Where do you come from. Saying 'Where you come from'. For Maori people it is really important to ask that question because it creates a link with that person. We also learnt about why Maori's use Macrons. Macrons are the line on top of the letter.

LI: to learn basic words in Te reo

today for Maori we had to get back into our group from last week and we had to sit down with our teacher and she told us new words and we learning about brothers and sisters and when she asked us how many younger, older brother or sisters we have in Te reo we had to say a number of how many we have. we then had a task to complete we had to find places in new Zealand and other countries and we had to find the Maori name for it so we had to translate the English name into Maori.

L.I to learn about Te Reo Maori.

This Week in Te reo we had learnt of different ways to greet whanau (Family). For the First activity, we had to watch two videos. In those videos they showed people talking to each other in Maori. The next thing that we had to do was write down the English sentences for the Maori sentences. For the next activity we had to do the same thing but it had to do with a family, for example: 'Ko wai te papa Lisa? The main words that would help us with it was  kuia (Grandmother/old lady), koro(Grandpa/old man), mama(mom), papa(dad)

Maori



This week we had the first session of Maori for term 4 with Whea Odi. This term we are doing more activity's. The first DLO there were Maori gods that we had to find the definition for. We had to find and write down different goddess for an example Rangi-Nui. 

Next we had to watch a video. Then do another activity, For this one we could either use the Maori dictionary and find the definitions of the words for an example (Roa) and use images.

The word for seasons in maori is tau. spring, summer, autumn, and winter also have their own words. We used the Te Ara website to learn these words.

This we for maori we had to create a DLO about Huarere (Weather) that nedded 7 weathers on it to teach the juniors. Martariki is the maori new year that is celebrated every year.

First we watched a video about a story space. The story was in Maori so the first thing we could of done was read the subtitles. It was about the sun, moon, stars and the light. And then we read a story that was the same. Then if we were finished our slide show we could edit it.

Patupaiarehe | Maori | Geography

LI: to learn about patupaiarehe fairies and the geography of Aotearoa.

Patupaiarehe are mythical creatures (fairies) that live deep in mountains in New Zealand. They have magical powers like super strength and changing people in patupaiare. We learnt about patupaiarehe and MT makoia by listing to the story of ihaga and searching for information, and using goggle maps.

Maori | patupaiarehe

LI: to learn the geography of Aotearoa.

Mount maunganui is a mountain in Tauranga. The Hunua and Waitakere ranges are mountains in Auckland. Patupaiarehe are fairies that lived on these mountains in Maori myths. I learned about the patupaiarehe and mountains by listening to two stories, The legend of Mauoo and the Turehu wars.

Maori Huawai

 LI: To learn how to pronounce Maori Vegetable. Today we had to create a poster showing vegetables in Maori. Me and my partner farzana. We also recorded our self pronouncing the Maori Vegetables. We went on the Maori dictionary to find the Maori words for that Vegetable. We did Tomato (Tōmato), Cucumber (Kūkama), Beetroot (Pīti), Lettuce (Rērihi)

This week for maori we watched a video about papatuanuku and ranginui seperated in sand art. Here is the clip. Mrs fiyah ody also read the book to us about the siblings. Kupe was the first to name Nz aoteoroa. The first to ever discover New zealand was james cook.

This week for maori we mad whai the english word is cat's cradle. We made 1-4 . parashoot, ifle tower and one more but i forgot what it was called. there were people who know how to make cats cradle and they showed us how to make it same as mrs fire odi. our fingers were sore but we still made it. we can learn it off by heart to.

Today for  Maori we first sang our first Maori song then we had to reaserch on youtube (a matariki story, matariki a ready to read,matariki) we had to get our slide show fist then we had to do the yout tube reserch on youtube about the matariki. we lernt that there is not in 2018 9 stars then before now and the next matariki is june 5th 2018. she told us about the chinnses calendar that they have a diffrent type of calendar then us right now. matariki is the 7 sisterswitch are stars.

today for maori we got taught a new song.we got a pice of paper and we had to write the fellings in maori we csn do faces and emoji face we can colour it in to but when we are done miss said that she commented on our pepeha we had to make one with our favrouite sport,family,friends,school, where your from.
